Evaluation of Dispersion

The laser diffraction particle size analyzer measures the sizes and proportion of carbon nanotubes (CNTs) contained in a sample. Realtime measurements allow observations of CNT aggregation status and changes.
The laser diffraction and scattering method determines the particle size distribution from the intensity distribution of light scattered from the particles. Shorter-wavelength light is required to observe the smaller particles. The SALD-7100 used for these measurements offers a shorter-wavelength laser than the conventional 680 nm laser. This 405 nm laser achieves a lower limit of detection of 15 nm.

The diagrams below show time-sequence measurements of CNTs dispersed in a solvent. The CNTs gradually aggregate, resulting in larger particle sizes.
