Workflow for Analysis of VOCs in Air Using Thermal Desorption-GCMS
This video presents you with a workflow for analysis of VOCs in Air. VOCs are chemicals that are easily evaporated at normal temperature and it can be generated from commonly used products like markers, and glues. Breathing in high amounts of VOCs may potentially pose serious health issues to human, ranging from mild issue like headache to serious issue like damage to liver. Hence, VOCs in air need to be monitored. Shimadzu TD-30R, equipped with both re-trapping and automatic addition of gaseous internal standard function, is used in conjunction with GCMS for detecting the VOCs content in air. Adsorbent material in sample tube is first selected before allocating some tubes to be loaded with standard for calibration curves and some tubes for collection of the air sample. Then, all the sample tubes are loaded onto TD-GCMS for sample analysis. Identification and quantification of VOCs are done with the help of library search function and calibration curve function in the Shimadzu software respectively.
