A Celebration of Shared Vision, Innovation, and Collaboration

Shimadzu (Asia Pacific) 35th Anniversary

On 22 November 2024, we proudly celebrated Shimadzu (Asia Pacific)'s 35th anniversary—a momentous milestone that reflects our history of innovation, collaboration, and success. Together with our valued distributors and trusted business partners—the very people who have been instrumental to our achievements— we gathered to commemorate this joyous occasion. This wouldn’t be possible without our collective efforts and unwavering collaboration.

We were honoured by the presence of His Excellency Hiroshi Ishikawa, Ambassador of Japan to Singapore, who highlighted Shimadzu (Asia Pacific)'s pivotal role as a hub of collaboration and innovation in the region, much like Singapore itself. With confidence in the enduring partnership between Singapore and Japan, he believes Shimadzu will continue to foster a culture of innovation between businesses and governments in both Singapore and Japan, benefiting the entire region.

We were equally privileged to have Yasunori Yamamoto, President & CEO of Shimadzu Corporation at the event. He expressed his heartfelt confidence in Shimadzu’s continued dedication to being our customers’ No.1 supporter. Such inspiring words reaffirmed our commitment to do even more to achieve the next level of growth and innovation.

Looking forward, Prem Anand, Managing Director of Shimadzu (Asia Pacific) shared his confidence in Shimadzu’s future. “We are built to last,” Prem stated. Despite challenges, Shimadzu (Asia Pacific) remains committed to maintaining high-growth momentum and elevating Shimadzu’s presence on the global stage. As Prem shares, “The Asian Century has just begun, and we are poised to seize this opportunity”.

Furthermore, our former Managing Directors—Yasumitsu Takagi, Tsuguo Kishida, Kiminobu Imura, and Tetsuya Tanigaki—were also present, adding a touch of nostalgia and pride to the celebration. Their visionary leadership laid the foundation for what Shimadzu (Asia Pacific) has become today, and it was a source of pride and reflection to share this milestone with them.

A Heartfelt Celebration Through Diversity, Equity, And Inclusion

The celebration began on a lively note with a captivating performance by the MINDS Taiko Drum Troupe, comprised of talented individuals with special needs. Their impressive skills and dedication reflect Shimadzu's commitment to Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion (DEI) and Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR). Supporting such initiatives reaffirms our dedication to building a more inclusive and equitable society.

The Joyous Tradition Of Kagami Biraki Ceremony

One of the celebration’s highlights was the traditional Kagami Biraki ceremony, where our esteemed customers joined in to ceremonially break open the sake barrels. This Japanese tradition symbolizes harmony, unity, and the overcoming of any challenges that come our way, which perfectly captured the spirit of the occasion.

The sake served during the ceremony carried a special story. It was crafted through a special collaboration between Shimadzu, the Kyoto Municipal Institute of Industrial Technology and Culture, and Shoutoku Shuzo brewery. What made it even more special was the hands-on involvement of Shimadzu employees in every stage of the production process, from planting and harvesting rice to brewing the sake. This heartfelt effort reflects our deep-rooted spirit of 'Omotenashi,' or thoughtful hospitality.

Giving Back To Society Through Meaningful CSR

The 35th anniversary was not just a time of celebration but also an opportunity to give back. Over the past year, SAP engaged in three impactful CSR activities.

  • River Cleanup Drive – We collected 20kg of waste, contributing to environmental sustainability.
  • Blood Donation Campaign – Recognizing how one unit of blood can save up to three lives, we actively participated in this essential cause to ensure sufficient national supply.
  • Senior Care Park Deliveries – Reaching out to 783 seniors, we delivered care packs full of essential items to create a more inclusive society.

These initiatives reflect Shimadzu’s fundamental commitment to contributing to society and making a greater impact.

Marking SAP’s 35th Birthday In Style

Our 35th anniversary celebration culminated in a heartfelt and jubilant moment through a specially designed anniversary cake. We were honoured to have representative customers, partners, and collaborators to be with us for this cake-cutting ceremony.

To spruce up the joyous atmosphere, we made the debut of our first-ever Shimadzu song, encapsulating our core values of innovation, unity, and resilience. Its heartfelt lyrics and uplifting melody resonated with everyone in attendance, creating a powerful moment of pride and connection.

A Walk Down The Memory Lane

Another memorable moment was a heartfelt session with former Managing Directors, moderated by our current MD, Prem Anand. Reflecting on their fondest memories, the session was a touching reminder of our shared history and the collective efforts that have brought us here. It was a celebration of legacy, leadership, and inspiration to strive toward even greater success.
