Four Shimadzu Analytical and Measuring Instruments Win the Internationally Recognized “Red Dot Design Award 2024”

Shimadzu has been awarded four Red Dot Design Awards 2024 in the product design category for its GCMS-QP2050 gas chromatograph-mass spectrometer, Brevis GC-2050 gas chromatograph, ICPMS-2040/2050 ICP mass spectrometer and SAGX-V series automatic universal testing system. The SAGX-V Series was developed in China to meet the country's market needs. This is the second award for a product developed in China since the cGBS-2030 gas bag sampler in 2022 and the first for a product developed in collaboration with a local startup.

The Red Dot Design Award is one of the world's largest design awards and is organized by the Design Zentrum Nordrhein Westfalen in North Rhine-Westphalia, Germany. In 2024, designers, design firms, and manufacturers from about 60 countries entered the awards. Based on the quest for 'excellent design and innovation'. the experts judge products based on the quality of function, the quality of seduction, the quality of use and the quality of responsibility.

The award ceremony is scheduled to take place in Essen in northwestern Germany on June 24,2024. An actual GCMS-QP2050 and explanatory panels showing the Brevis GC-2050, ICP-2040/2050, and SAGX-V series will be displayed in the city’s Red Dot Museum for the next year.

Gas chromatograph (GC) is an analytical instrument that measures the type and quantity of components in a compound. The Brevis GC-2050 is 35 % narrower than previous models and achieves high throughput even in a small laboratory. As with the high-end Nexis GC-2030 model, this instrument is equipped with the latest support functions and convenient maintenance performance, so even inexperienced users can obtain stable analysis results. The design is expressed with various black materials and a clear color scheme that emphasizes the compact size when installed alone and creates a sense of rhythm when multiple units are installed. The new design reduces electricity and gas consumption.

ICPMS-2040/2050 ICP Mass Spectrometer

ICP mass spectrometer (ICP-MS)  is an analytical instrument that qualifies and quantifies inorganic elements. The standard ICPMS-2040 model and the high-sensitivity ICPMS-2050 model can together accommodate a wide range of applications.  The rich support features provide stable analysis results even for inexperienced users. SAGX-V Series Of Automatic Universal Testing System 

SAGX-V

Universal Testing System are used in strength tests that measure the strength of materials and the changes when a force is applied. The SAGX-V Series was  developed in collaboration with a Chinese startup company in the robotics field, Shishi (Shanghai) Automation Technology Co., Ltd. The main testing unit and sample size measurement laser, from measuring the dimensions of metal materials to tensile testing. The software that can be easily operated by inexperienced users improves the accuracy and efficiency of testing. The design of the system is modular, which enables components to be freely combined, and layouts can be changed to meet customer requirements.
